Founded in 2010 in Somerset West, Triggerfish Brewing is one of the pioneers of South African craft beer and the second-oldest craft brewery in the greater Cape Town area. Brewing in small, meticulous batches, they focus on mastering complex classic styles while boldly exploring innovative hybrids. Nestled in the heart of wine country, they launched a pioneering Sour Beer Programme in 2013, using aged wine barrels to create distinctive, character-driven brews. Roman Red is a beautifully balanced, medium bodied amber ale. It pours a clear African Sunsetred with a dense off white head. The citrus and pine resin hop aroma typically associated withPacific North Western hop varieties strikes a balance with caramel, raisins, and a hint ofsmokiness from the darker crystal malts.

Residual sweetness from the malt counters the hopbitterness. The beer finishes in a lingering mix of caramel and bitterness.
