Single Malt Scotch Whisky | Highland | Limited Single Cask Release The Glenfarclas 1988 Family Cask #4966 is a rare, single-cask Highland single malt drawn from the legendary Family Casks series one of the most respected and collectible single cask programmes in Scotch whisky. Distilled in 1988 and matured exclusively in a refill sherry cask, this whisky was bottled at natural cask strength with no chill-filtration and no colouring.
With just 252 bottles released, it offers a refined, elegant expression of long-aged Glenfarclas character, favouring balance and complexity over overt sweetness. Tasting Notes Colour: Deep burnished amber with copper and mahogany highlights. Nose: Elegant and composed. Notes of polished oak, dried orange peel, sultanas and soft toffee, followed by walnut, leather-bound books and gentle baking spice.
Subtle hints of dark honey, cocoa powder and antique furniture emerge with time. Palate: Silky yet powerful. Layers of dried fruits, dark caramel, treacle and roasted nuts are balanced by mature oak tannins and warming spice. The refill sherry cask allows the distillate to shine, showing citrus oils, malt sweetness and a refined earthiness beneath the richness.
Finish: Long, warming and dry with lingering oak spice, dark chocolate, toasted almonds and a gentle echo of dried fruit. Exceptionally poised and contemplative.
