Richard Rodney Bennett is one of Britain's most distinguished, versatile, and prolific twentieth century composers. Dinkin provides a descriptive account of election contests, divided into chronological chapters. He writes of the colonial period, the first and second party systems, the golden age of parties' (1854-1888), the merchandising' era (1892-1948), and the contemporary mass media age. Most of the chapters follow the same format, successively describing campaign innovations, the use of print and other media, campaign organization, finance, and party coalitions.
